– Iliriana Koleka –
Today July 7, 2024, I remember with great longing and respect my father, Spiro Koleka (1908 -2001), on the 116th anniversary of his birth. He was an extraordinary man in terms of willpower, moral values, and above all, patriotism. I always remember my father with admiration and special respect. He was a dedicated person who contributed to Albania throughout his honest life without any material gain, unlike what is happening today with the politicians in 30 years of capitalism.
Spiro Koleka was a patriotic communist, a comrade-in-arms of Enver Hoxha, one of the most prominent leaders of the socialist government who gave his great contribution, so much so that he was called the father of constructions in the building of the Albanian state, from the draining of swamps to the construction of factories and hydro-electric power stations, many of which were sold to foreigners by the anti-Albanian, villainous and obscurantist Sali Berisha, such as Bistrica 1 and 2, Ulza and Shkopeti. The same thing was done by this neanderthal caveman with 500 factories inherited from the socialist system, which my father had followed step by step from the project to their implementation and operation, and which the anti-Albanians of Berisha’s regime turned into scrap. I nostalgically remember all the times he took me with him to visit these factories, from the paper factory, the copper factory where gold was also extracted, the nitrogen fertilizer factory, the metallurgical plant, the auto-tractor factory, etc. My father was the head of control, following and implementing the projects of all the bridges, roads and marvellous engineering works of socialist Albania. He participated fully or partially in the construction of every project, and despite the sadness that they were destroyed, demolished or sold to foreigners, the memory of the works my father left behind remains in the hearts and minds of the Albanians.
