I read an article about the debate between Ismail Kadare and Rexhep Qosja. This Kadare had published a book entitled The European Identity of the Albanians. The main question of this debate was: What are we Albanians — Christians or Muslims?
Twenty years ago, when Albania and Kosova had many troubles and wounds, this man was dealing with the religions of the Albanians. I believe that Ismail, after finishing his work on the book about prostitutes during socialism (he called them heroines because they practised their profession under illegal conditions), published a book about religions. It seems to me that since then, his dementia, the disease of old age, had begun.
It is not by chance that he wanted to classify the Albanians as Christians. Ismail had forgotten that every occupier brought their religion to rule longer. What concerns me is why this Ismail favoured one religion and declared the other an enemy. Does he have the moral right to do this? You do not enter Europe by waging religious wars. You enter Europe by respecting the culture and religions of others.
How did Ismail think that with religions we will enter the new Europe? My opinion is that he sought to divide Albanians according to their religious affiliations, something that would please the masters who fed him.
Ismail, I know you cannot listen to me, but I would ask: You, Ismail, where do you get these foolish ideas?
