Qemal Was Killed on May 5th
May 5th, when Qemal was killed,
has entered history,
the day of our martyrs,
who gave their lives for freedom.
A day of noble heroes,
throughout Albania,
who sleep in fields full of twenty-eight thousand.
With the word “Party” on their lips,
they saw death in their eyes.
Generations will remember them
with respect and love.

May 5th, a day of valour,
eight letters, two words of heart,
a day that recalls war and blood,
martyrs and heroes.
Qemal fell through flames,
with thoughts and words of wisdom,
a fighter with no equal,
courageous and determined,
a genuine communist,
outspoken, brave with the pen,
he fell with ideals in his heart,
for freedom, for Albania.
He fell leaving a legacy,
a legacy that the earth cannot erase:
“Fight, oh, fight for power.”

Thursday, a black day,
news of sorrow in Peza,
in Tirana Qemal was killed,
communist, oh, that lad.
By fascism, by the Italians,
he fell a martyr, oh, for Albania,
he gave his life, oh, for freedom.
You fought for Albania
against bloody fascism,
you and your life for the Party,
brave and strong, oh, with a star on your forehead.
