Patriotism on the Outside or the Inside

– Gjon Bruçi –

During Prime Minister Edi Rama’s meeting with our emigrants in Athens, there were numerous statements with various perspectives, many of which were politically charged. Among these statements, the most realistic and impactful was the one made by the Chairman of the “TOGETHER” Movement, the University of Tirana lecturer Mr. Arlind Qori.

Asked by “Gazeta SOT,” the lecturer Arlind Qori said:

“It is not that difficult to be a patriot in words. True patriotism is not stealing from your people and then advancing developmental reforms for the country. The latter, Edi Rama cannot do. Therefore, he remains to behave like a hypocritical flag-waver!”

When I read this “definition” of the Prime Minister, my mind went to a sketch by Shkodran actors Besnik Çinari and Zyliha Miloti. In the sketch, Zyliha boasts to Besnik about her beauty and elegance as a woman. Besnik agrees with Zyliha’s “advertisement” and adds:

“It is true! From the ‘outside,’ you look good, but from the ‘inside,’ you are ruined…!”

I don’t know how well this line fits the case of Prime Minister Rama!
