– Liliana Konomi Mero –
The youth of Ziçisht takes care of maintaining the memorials erected in the yard of their “Vasil Xhaçka” school in honour of the sublime sacrifices of the descendants in the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War (1939-44)! The first memorial is dedicated to the martyrs of this War: Nerënxa Ziçisht, Elise Kristo Papapostoli, Oresti Ilo Pano, Pandi Nisi Visari Petro Mina Panajot and Miti Vasil Ogreni. The second memorial is dedicated to the partisan from Poloska, commander Refat Poloska, who fell a martyr in an attempt against the Ballists in Ziçisht.
The martyrs of Ziçisht are immortalized also in books by their comrades in arms. Thus Kosta Petro Niço, a partisan in the first battalion of the Peza Group and in the 22nd Brigade, in his book “Ziçisht in the years of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War,” published on April 7, 2003. Poignantly described is the most painful event for Ziçisht during the Ziçisht National Liberation War, rightly called the Ziçisht Massacre, because three young men from the village guerrilla unit, Oresti, Pandi and Eliseu, were killed in an attempt against the Germans and Ballists.
Sotir Andoni, a partisan in the Morava Detachment, the “Fuat Babani” battalion and later in the 9th Assault Brigade, and also a writer, remembers their fall in his book “Partisan War (as I lived it).”
Gaqo Kollumbi, also a partisan in Opar and the 15th Assault Brigade, has written about them in his book “Partisan Diary,” etc., etc.
Glory to the Martyrs of the Anti-Fascist National Liberation War!
